Evaluations
Homeschoolers in Virginia are required to provide proof of progress through testing or evaluation. VAHomeschoolers has a great article on evaluation letters. You can find it here. Proof of progress is due to be submitted by August 1st each year.
Having an evaluation may be a better option for a student with learning differences or test anxiety. Another benefit of evaluation is that it provides a more in-depth picture of your student's strengths and weaknesses. Standardized tests only tell you how you student scored compared to others. Evaluation services are $50 for the first child, $35 for additional students. There is a $15 added charge from July 15 - July 31. Sliding scale rates are available. If you are interested, please contact Shay for more information or to begin the evaluation process. You can also visit our FAQ page, which has additional info. There is a $25 non-refundable registration fee for all new families. Please go to this link to sign up. |
F.A.Q.'sWho should get an evaluation?
Often, students who get an evaluation are: - younger - have test anxiety - are exceptional learners (ADHD, Autism, gifted, medical needs) - relaxed/eclectic homeschoolers or unschoolers How does the process work?
New families sign up through the link on the left. New and returning families schedule their evaluation. During the evaluation, your evaluator will interview the student briefly and review work samples. Depending on the amount of school work available, the evaluator may need to do additional brief assessments for language arts and reading. |
