About
360 Citizens Academy (formerly Provision F.E.S. Academy) is the educational division of the non-profit organization, 360 Citizens.
Founded in 2015, 360 Citizens is committed to ensuring that 757 youth are literate, engaged, empathetic, and positioned to be economically secure community members. In order to reach this goal, we provide reading help, education consultations, and homeschool evaluations.
Zhavon Shay Malone is a counselor-educator who was frustrated with seeing so many students falling behind in school. As a gifted learner with ADHD, she understood that every student needs to learn their way and master the basics before they can move on. She saw students who were convinced they were dumb, because they did not learn the way they were expected to.
In 2016, her oldest son was in 1st grade, knew his phonics and letters but could not read. Testing showed he had a reading disability (dyslexia). After trying several highly-praised reading programs, Shay discovered EasyRead. In a span of 3 months, from the beginning of 3rd grade to Thanksgiving, her son began to read independently. 360 Reads was created to help other students who need to learn to read in a systemic, phonics based way.
Currently, Shay is working with high school students who want to earn their GED. This experience emphasized the number of students who are leaving high school unprepared to make a living, and unaware of how much they don't know. A disproportionate number of these students are black Americans.
360 Citizens believes that the exclusion of a complete American history is part of the reason this disparity exists. Our organization wants to correct social distortions and inequities to strengthen the local economy and improve community relationships.
